On September 27, 2009, SGI-Sri Lanka women met at the SGI-Sri Lanka Culture Center in Colombo. The general meeting centered around the theme of building a foundation for happiness within the family. Ms. Mendis, wife of former governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, attended the gathering.

One woman spoke about how her family life had changed for the better based on her practice of Nichiren Buddhism. Participants also took part in a forum in which they discussed how to create harmony and unity within their own families.
