From September 12-13, 2009, opening ceremonies for the SGI-Italy Marche Community Center were held in the municipality of Falconara Marittima in the Marche region of Italy.

On September 12, Falconara Marittima Mayor Goffredo Brandoni attended the official opening and expressed his hope that the new center would become a place where citizens will create solidarity through mutual respect and encouragement.

Approximately 900 SGI-Italy members and guests from Marche, including Mayor Giovanni Gaspari from San Benedetto del Tronto in Marche, participated in the two-day event where they enjoyed a choral performance and had opportunities to hear members share their experiences about their daily practice of Nichiren Buddhism and learn about SGI's activities in the areas of peace, culture and education. SGI-Italy Marche Men's Leader Paolo Falasco, Marche Women's Leader Anna Ricci, SGI-Italy Women's Leader Asa Nakajima and SGI-Italy Vice General Director Andrea Bottai also attended.
