New Soka Gakkai Indonesia Community Centers Open
A new community center in the City of Batam
On July 3, 2009, Soka Gakkai Indonesia opened a new community center in the City of Batam, in Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. Around 500 SGI-Indonesia members and local residents attended the official opening, during which youth members performed songs and dances. Participants at the meeting shared their determinations to make activities at the new center a source of happiness for people living in Batam. A new community center also opened in the village of Kuta, located on the island of Bali, on May 9.
On May 17, 700 SGI-Indonesia women and young women held a meeting commemorating SGI-Indonesia Women's Day (May 14) at SGI-Indonesia Headquarters in Jakarta. The event included a folk dance and a performance of the Angklung, a percussion instrument made of bamboo.
