Soka Gakkai Commemorates 78th Anniversary
On November 18, 2008, the Soka Gakkai held solemn prayer meetings to commemorate the 78th anniversary of its founding (November 18, 1930) and to pray for its first president, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, who passed away on November 18, 1944.
SGI President Daisaku Ikeda led a service at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, together with representative Soka Gakkai leaders and offered prayers for the happiness, good health and safety of people everywhere as well as for lasting world peace. He presented four poems he had written to celebrate the Soka Gakkai’s founding day.
Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada and General Director Masaaki Masaki attended a meeting at the Soka Culture Center in Shinanomachi, Tokyo. Expressing his appreciation to the first three presidents' selfless efforts for peace and happiness, Mr. Harada asked everyone to achieve victories in their lives in the build-up to the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai’s founding in 2010.
