SGI-Iceland Initiates "Encouragement Campaign"

In response to the negative impact of the global financial situation on Icelandic banks and the country's economy, SGI-Iceland members launched an "Encouragement Campaign" in early October, aimed at bolstering the spirits of those suffering as a result of the crisis.

SGI-Iceland Young Women's Leader Eyrún Ósk Jónsdóttir commented, "We are sensing a lot of desperation among the general public here in Iceland. Now people are looking for something more secure to put their hearts into."

TV1, one of the three TV channels in Iceland, contacted SGI-Iceland General Director Eygló Jónsdóttir as part of a request to various religious leaders, politicians and renowned individuals to air messages of inspiration to the people of Iceland at this difficult time. TV1 filmed a short message from Ms. Jónsdóttir in which she referred to a quotation from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda that states "There are no problems or difficulties in the human realm that we, as human beings, cannot surmount. We all possess within us the power to overcome and endure." She stressed that we each have limitless creative power inside of us. TV1 broadcasted each message several times on prime time, starting from October 13, 2008.
