Study Exams Held in Taiwan and Argentina
On September 7, 2008, Taiwan Soka Association held an examination on Nichiren Buddhism for intermediate-level lecturers at 11 venues throughout Taiwan. Over 600 candidates were tested on their knowledge and understanding of Nichiren Buddhism, including "On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land," one of Nichiren's writings. About 70 percent of the candidates were youth members, many of whom reported that their efforts at study strengthened their desire to carry on Nichiren's spirit of humanism and to work for people's happiness.
On August 3, some 870 SGI-Argentina members sat for an entrance-level study examination on Nichiren Buddhism at 31 venues throughout the country. The study material included three of Nichiren's writings--"On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime," "The Persecution at Tatsunokuchi" and "Many in Body, One in Mind," basic concepts of Nichiren Buddhism, the life of Nichiren and history of the Soka Gakkai. Long-term members offered support for the exam candidates by studying together with them. After the exam, through their efforts to apply what they learned, examinees commented that they became more convinced that Nichiren Buddhism is a brilliant philosophy that can guide individuals to bring forth their highest potential.
