On June 15, 2008, SGI-Germany members gathered to celebrate the opening of their new Berlin Center. Located in the heart of Berlin, the new center, which has a large prayer hall and conference rooms, will serve as a focal point for activities in SGI-Germany's East Region.

At the opening, SGI-Germany Women's Leader Wiencke-Naniwa Anette and Men's Leader Leonardo Duricic expressed their appreciation for the members who helped refurbishing the new center, and encouraged everyone to unite and advance in their own daily lives. SGI-Germany General Headquarters Leader Yoshiharu Matsuno and SGI-Germany General Director Matthias Gröninger attended and offered their congratulations. Expressing their joy with the new center's opening, SGI-Germany East Region Leaders Andreas and Midori Daeumer reflected on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's visit to West Germany in 1961 when he stated his belief and determination to realize peace in front of Berlin's famous Brandenburg Gate. They asked the participants to continue in their efforts to become exemplary citizens and work for the sake of lasting peace.
