SGI-Iceland Incorporated as Religious Organization

Recently, SGI-Iceland was officially incorporated as a religious organization in Iceland. On April 25-26, 2008, "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential," an exhibition created by the SGI and the Earth Charter Initiative, showed in Reykjavík, commemorating the organization's new status and the new phase in the organization's growth. Among the guests visiting the exhibition was former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.

Over the years, through grassroots dialogue, SGI-Iceland members have advanced the public's understanding of the SGI and gained trust and friendship in their communities. In 2006, Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century, a dialogue between former Soviet President and Nobel Peace Laureate Mikhail Gorbachev and SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, was published in Icelandic, with the support of the Icelandic Ministry of Education. In 2007, an animated series based on original children's stories by Mr. Ikeda was aired on Iceland's national television. SGI-Iceland General Director Eygló Jónsdóttir expressed her resolve to building friendships and contributing to the development of Icelandic society.
