SGI-UK Holds Leaders Meeting and Women's Training Course
On April 5, 2008, some 500 SGI-UK representatives from throughout the country attended a leaders meeting at Taplow Court Grand Culture Centre in Berkshire. Participants discussed SGI-UK's efforts to promote the study of Nichiren Buddhism. Youth members reported on the recent SGI-Europe Youth General Meeting that they attended in Italy on March 16. SGI-UK General Director Robert Samuels emphasized the vital role of grassroots discussion meetings in providing members opportunities to develop joy and conviction and for raising capable people who will make efforts for the sake of others' happiness. He encouraged everyone to further acquaint their communities with SGI's humanistic ideals and peace movement.
From April 11-13, SGI-UK women leaders met for a training course in the outskirts of Birmingham. Mr. Samuels and SGI-UK Women's Leader Suzanne Pritchard attended. SGI-Europe Women's Chair Sakae Takahashi led a study of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's lectures on "The Opening of the Eyes," one of Nichiren's writings. Ms. Takahashi encouraged the women to challenge to break through deeply held delusions in order to achieve genuine happiness. She also encouraged the women to master the art of humanistic dialogue, manifesting a deep respect for all life.
