SGI-USA and SGI-Thailand Open New Centers

Local SGI-USA members celebrate the opening of new center in Buffalo

On April 6, 2008, SGI-USA's Buffalo Community Center opened in Buffalo, New York State. The center will be a focus of activities for members living in the Buffalo-Niagara Area, part of SGI-USA's New York Zone. Buffalo is the principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area located on the eastern shores of Lake Erie sharing a border with Canada. SGI-USA General Director Daniel Nagashima, East Territory Men's Leader John Kasahara and New York Zone Leader Ethan Gelbaum attended the opening with some 700 local members. After local boys and girls had performed a dragon dance, Mr. Nagashima encouraged the participants to further develop their own lives as well as their friendships within their communities.

SGI-Thailand Hat Yai Center

In Thailand, on April 7, SGI-Thailand (SGT) opened the Hat Yai Center in Songkhla Province. Hat Yai is one of the largest commercial cities in southern Thailand.

Attending the official opening were some 1,000 SGT members including SGT Executive Chair Somsak Likitjariyanon and General Director Somkiat Limrossukon and invited guests Songkhla Province Deputy Governor Theerathep Sriyaphan and Hatyai University President Dr. Wan Dechpichai. In his congratulatory remarks, Mr. Theerathep expressed his hopes that the SGT members would take advantage of their new center and help build a prosperous and peaceful future in southern Thailand.
