Nichiren's Birth Commemorated

Around February 16, 2008, SGI members in 190 countries worldwide, including Soka Gakkai members in Japan, held services to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nichiren born on February 16, 1222.

In Japan, meetings were held at Soka Gakkai centers throughout the country on February 15. SGI President Daisaku Ikeda conducted a memorial service at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters annex in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, in celebration of Nichiren's birthday and to pay tribute to his unrelenting struggle for people's happiness. Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada led a service at the Soka Culture Center in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, and emphasized that the first three presidents of the Soka Gakkai dedicated their lives to communicate Nichiren's humanistic philosophy in the modern age.
