SGI-Dominican Republic Members Gather in Santo Domingo

On February 10, 2008, over 1,000 SGI-Dominican Republic members gathered for a general meeting at the main auditorium of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) in Santo Domingo, the country's capital. The event commemorated the 21st anniversary of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's first visit to the country.

On January 19, UASD conferred an honorary doctorate on Mr. Ikeda for his contributions to promote a culture of peace. UASD Vice Rector Alejandro Pichardo recalled his meeting with Mr. Ikeda in Japan and expressed his hopes for the SGI to expand its activities that promote the development of capable youth in society. SGI-Dominican Republic Young Men's Leader Ramón Osorio reported about the conferral which was held in Japan. SGI-Dominican Republic General Director Takashi Nishio encouraged everyone to continue building peace in their respective communities. Other guests included UASD Department of Humanities Dean Rafael Guillermo Díaz. The SGI-Dominican Republic Brass Band and Fife-and-Drum Corps performed at the meeting.
