On December 5, 2007, SGI-Hong Kong held its 40th general meeting at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong. Some 3,800 members gathered to kick off 2008, which the SGI has designated the "Year of Capable People and Development." Newly appointed youth division (YD) leaders were announced at the meeting. They are: YD Leader Ngan Sai Fong; Young Men's Division Leader Jeffrey Wong; Young Women's Division (YWD) Leader Flora Kwok; and Student Division Leader Chow Wing Hang. Former YD Leader Tam Chi Hang and YWD Leader Michelle Wong will serve as YD advisor and vice YD advisor, respectively. The SGI-Hong Kong Academic Affairs Department was newly established with Dr. Norbert Cheung as its head. SGI-Hong Kong General Director Lee Kong Sau called on the participants to advance together, based on the spirit of disciples inheriting the mentor's vision for peace. SGI-Hong Kong's Cosmos Brass Band, Rainbow Dance Group, Bauhinia Fife and Drum Corps and Golden Eagle Gymnastics Team performed.

On December 2, SGI-Macau also held its 24th general meeting at the SGI-Macau Culture Center.
