Latin American Youth Gather for Peace Conference in Brazil
On October 12-14, 2007, 150 SGI youth representatives of six Latin American countries--Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Venezuela and Ecuador--attended a leadership training course in Brazil. On October 12, the group held a Latin America Youth Peace Conference at the SGI-Brazil Culture Center in São Paulo, where participants renewed their pledge to shoulder responsibility for creating a new era with the "stand alone" spirit, based on the life-affirming philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism. On the following day, the participants attended local discussion meetings in São Paulo and nearby cities.
On the last day, the group met at the SGI-Brazil Nature and Culture Center located in a São Paulo suburb to further their study of Nichiren Buddhism. Following a screening of a recent leaders' meeting held in Japan, a message from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda was shared. SGI-Brazil General Director Eduardo Taguchi called on the young people to advance together with SGI members worldwide toward 2010, the Soka Gakkai's 80th anniversary, to strive in their own personal development and to offer support and encouragement to others.
