10,000 Gather for Soka Gakkai Thailand Men's General Meeting; Men Meet in Costa Rica, New Zealand and U.K.
On September 23, 2007, Soka Gakkai Thailand (SGT) men's division (MD) held its first general meeting at the indoor arena at Thammasat University, in the suburbs of Bangkok. Some 10,000 men gathered for the event from throughout the country. The SGT MD membership has doubled in the past five years as a result of one on one dialogue, based on the MD's mottoes of "applying faith into daily life" and "creating harmony in one's family." In a message, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda asked everyone to become exemplary citizens and steadily develop trust and friendship in society as well as in their respective organizations. One representative shared his experience of overcoming financial difficulties and creating family accord by exerting himself in his daily practice of Nichiren Buddhism. SGT General Director Somkiat Limrossukon and SGT Executive Chair Somsak Liawcharoen each spoke.
On August 19, SGI-Costa Rica MD held their first general meeting at the SGI-Costa Rica Culture Center in San José. On August 25 and 26, SGI-New Zealand MD members gathered in Wellington, for their first nationwide MD training course. In addition to a study session on Nichiren Buddhism, participants held discussions on "Buddhism and health," "the true meaning of victory in society" and "finding one's purpose in life." Elsewhere, SGI-UK North London Area's MD held their first summer training course on September 15 and 16 in London, where participants studied Mr. Ikeda's lectures on "The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life," one of Nichiren's writings.
