On August 28, 2007, over 5.000 SGI-Italy members gathered from throughout the nation for a general meeting at the Nelson Mandela Forum, an indoor sports arena in Florence, Tuscany Province.

Florence Mayor Leonardo Domenici sent a congratulatory message in which he referred to the conferral of the Florentine Republic Seal of Peace, one of the City's highest honors, upon SGI President Daisaku Ikeda in March 2007, remarking that SGI's initiatives based on dialogue for peace, humanism and culture are in consonance with the ideals of the city of Florence.

Mr. Ikeda sent a message praising the SGI-Italy members for leading noble lives as envoys of the Thus Come One (one of the ten honorable titles of the Buddha), working for others' happiness and the flourishing of their local communities and Italian society. Following a choral performance of "Young Heroes," the SGI-Italy youth division song, General Director Tamotsu Nakajima appealed to the participants to engage in dialogues and develop friendships, earning trust in society. SGI-Europe Chair Hideaki Takahashi from France and SGI Women's Leader Kayoko Asano and SGI General Director Yoshitaka Oba, who had flown in from Tokyo, expressed their felicitations.
