SGI-Cambodia Youth Pledge to Advance Peace

On July 1, 2007, SGI-Cambodia held its first national youth division leaders' meeting at the SGI-Cambodia Culture Center in Phnom Penh. Some 200 representatives gathered from around the country to commemorate the second anniversary of the formation of the SGI-Cambodia young men's division (YMD) and young women's division (YWD). Following activity reports by youth representatives, national YMD Leader Nhim Ronald and YWD Leader Suon Samphors expressed their resolve to work for the peace of Cambodia and introduced accounts of members' efforts to foster trust and friendship among SGI-Cambodia youth through dialogue. SGI-Cambodia General Director Kozo Yamaya spoke about SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's visit to Cambodia 46 years ago when there were no SGI members, and how the organization steadily developed from a "trickle" into a "flowing river" of members today. He encouraged everyone to have this same spirit to spread friendship and build a society of peace and happiness.

Chapter youth gatherings were also held in July at five venues including Phnom Penh and Samrong Village.
