On June 7, 2007, the SGI-Portugal "Young Mothers" group made its debut at a venue in Lisbon. The women shared experiences of practicing and applying the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism in their daily lives as mothers and partners, as well as read SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's poem dedicated to young mothers. The women's leader attending the meeting remarked that she was inspired by the positive examples set by the members as they confront personal obstacles and endeavor to lead value-creative lives.

Historically, the SGI "Young Mothers" groups have enabled women facing the demands of raising young children, oftentimes coupled with work and study, to create a supportive, local network of friends.
