SGI-Italy Holds National Leaders' Meeting


On March 24, 2007, some 500 SGI-Italy representatives attended a national leaders' meeting at the SGI-Italy Culture Center in Florence. SGI President Daisaku Ikeda sent a congratulatory message and a poem dedicated to the SGI-Italy members. The meeting opened with a performance of "Young Heroes," the SGI-Italy Youth Division song. In her greetings, youth leader Tamika Kaneda called on the young people to challenge their limitations and develop their abilities while in their youth. SGI-Italy General Director Tamotsu Nagashima encouraged everyone to continue to cultivate their character and further contribute to Italian society. Soka Gakkai Vice General Director Hiromasa Ikeda, who was visiting Italy, expressed his hopes for SGI-Italy to take the lead in creating new waves of peace throughout Europe.

During the past year, SGI-Italy's membership grew by 4,000 of whom 1,500 were youth. With young people taking the initiative, SGI-Italy has been focusing its activities around small discussion groups held every month at 4,200 venues throughout the country.
