Youth Support Groups Meet in Italy and Belgium
From December 1 through 3, 2006, a combined training course for SGI-Italy Soka and Byakuren groups was held in Pescia, a small medieval town in the hills northwest of Florence, Italy. The Soka and Byakuren Groups are young men's and young women's support groups, respectively, within the SGI organization that support from behind the scenes various SGI activities and meetings. Some 200 participants from throughout Italy studied SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's lectures on Nichiren's writing "On Attaining Enlightenment in This Lifetime" and discussed the bodhisattva spirit of serving and supporting others.
On December 10, 2006, some 60 SGI-Belgium young women and guests gathered at SGI-Belgium's culture center for a general meeting. Two young women shared how they have applied and benefited from the practice of Nichiren Buddhism in their daily lives. SGI-Belgium young women's division leader Joelle Troeder-LeBlond stated that study of Nichiren Buddhism and its philosophy shows the way to overcome obstacles and win in life. The participants also enjoyed impromptu performances at the meeting.
