On June 10, Singapore Soka Association (SSA) youth sponsored their sixth peace lecture at the SSA headquarters, inviting renowned Gandhian scholar Dr. N. Radhakrishnan as guest lecturer. Dr. Radhakrishnan is chair of the Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, director of the G. Ramachandran Institute of Nonviolence in India and former director of the Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti in New Delhi. Speaking on "The Triumph of the Mentor-Disciple Spirit," Dr. Radhakrishnan explained that the mentor serves to inspire the disciples, which leads to the flourishing of the human spirit. He stated that the shared triumph of mentor and disciple bourgeons when the disciple embraces and carries out the mentor's lofty spirit and transcends the mentor.

Dr. Radhakrishnan encouraged those present to follow in the footsteps of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, who has manifested the genuine spirit of mentor and disciple as an exemplar, through his relationship with his mentor, Josei Toda. He ended his speech with Mr. Ikeda's words, "Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved!".

The lecture coincided with the opening of "Gandhi, King, Ikeda: Legacy of Building Peace," at the Singapore Management University.

On the following day at a Women's Peace Lecture, Dr. Radhakrishnan spoke about the importance of women's empowerment, concurring with Mr. Ikeda that the 21st century should be a "Century of Women." He also urged all to "remember the future of humanity rests on the awareness that every man has to recognize the injustice that has been done to women" and now is the time "to dispense with the notion that woman is subservient to man."
