5,000 Soka Gakkai Youth Rally in Tokyo

Exuberant youth from throughout Tokyo gather for rally

On April 29, some 5,000 Soka Gakkai youth representatives gathered from throughout Tokyo, Tokaido and Kanto regions for a rally at Soka University's main auditorium in Hachioji Tokyo. The event commemorated the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai young men's division (YMD) and young women's division (YWD). SGI President Daisaku Ikeda sent a congratulatory message, in which he called on the youth to fulfill their respective missions and to lead victorious lives while embracing justice, courage and faith. SGI youth from 18 countries and regions also sent congratulatory messages.

During the first half of the rally, the Soka Renaissance Vanguard, Fuji Fife-and-Drum Corps, Shinano Chorus, Fuji Chorus and Soka Gloria Brass Band presented dynamic performances. A video describing the spirit of mentor and disciple, as exemplified by Soka Gakkai's three presidents' struggles for peace, was screened. The latter part began with an opening address by Soka Gakkai Youth Division Chief Kazuhiko Takeuchi. YMD Chief Yoshinori Sato and YWD Chief Mitsuko Tateno introduced each division's declaration, which were adopted with unanimous agreement. Soka Gakkai President Einosuke Akiya referred to Mr. Ikeda's lifelong dedication for world peace to meet his mentor's expectations, and encouraged youth to further advance for people's happiness and peace in society.
