On August 3, an Soka Gakkai delegation, led by Soka Gakkai International Affairs Director Kenji Yoshigo, visited former Mongolian President Natsagiin Bagabandi at the government office in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Mr. Yoshigo conveyed a message from SGI President Daisaku Ikeda to Mr. Bagabandi. Mr. Bagabandi congratulated Mr. Ikeda for receiving the Order of Polar Star, one of Mongolia's highest awards, and said Mongolia highly valued Mr. Ikeda's contributions to strengthen educational and cultural exchanges between their two countries. He referred to his three-time official visits to Japan during his eight-year presidency (till June 2005), and fondly recalled his 1998 visit to Soka University in Hachioji, Tokyo, where he gave a lecture, as well as his meeting with Mr. Ikeda. He said that he has emphasized on fostering youth, such as sending some 500 Mongolian youth to abroad for study and training, with his belief that youth has a key role to develop friendship between Mongolia and Japan and build a peaceful society. Deputy director of the Administrative Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luvsandoo Dashpurev and Soka Gakkai International Affairs Associate Director Eiji Ouchi also attended the meeting.
