SGI-Korea Opens New Center in Taebaek, Gangwon Province
On June 4, SGI-Korea opened a new center in Taebaek, Gangwon (Kangwon) Province, South Korea. The building has two stories above ground and one basement floor, and features a 3,000-seat lecture hall. Surrounded by the Taebaek Mountains, Taebaek City is a renowned alpine resort and the origin of the Han and Nakdong Rivers. For many years, local SGI members have contributed to their community through environmental protection and relief activities. In recognition of the SGI-Korea members' social activism, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda was awarded an honorary citizenship from Gangwon Province in 2002. The new Taebaek center will serve as a hub for activities in the community.
