SGI Members Around the World Celebrate New Year's Day and SGI's 30th Anniversary
On January 1 and 2, SGI members in 190 countries and regions gathered in their respective locales--at over 1,000 venues, to celebrate the start of 2005, as well as the 30th anniversary of the SGI (January 26, 2005).
SGI-New Zealand members gathered at the SGI-New Zealand Culture Center in Auckland as well at the Dunedin Activity Center on South Island, located in the southernmost part of the hemisphere.
SGI members in the Democratic Republic of Madagascar, located 250 miles off the southeast coast of Africa, met in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Members also gathered for a peace prayer meeting in Majunga, the northwestern part of the island.
SGI-Philippines held New Year's meetings at five locales throughout the country. SGI-Philippines Advisor Yasunori Takimoto and General Director Yasuaki Niitsu attended a meeting at the SGI-Philippines Culture Center in Manila.
Members in Spain met throughout the nation, including the capital city of Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands off the shores of Northwest Africa.
In Guam, USA, some 130 SGI-USA members in Guam Chapter gathered on January 1 at their center. Members in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Dependent Area, which was officially registered as a corporation in November 2004, gathered in Saipan. A member from Fiji also attended.
