Soka Gakkai Education Department Holds Conference

Members of the Soka Gakkai Education Department held a conference at the Tokyo Toda Memorial Hall on September 5. Soka Gakkai Education Department Chief Hajime Miyamoto shared his hope that the educators would take the lead in promoting a society that values education. Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada conveyed his hope that the participants would deepen their understanding of the philosophy of Soka--"value creation"--and become trusted individuals within their schools.

In his message for the event, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda stated that the origin of Soka Gakkai is education for the purpose of helping people to lead lives of value and happiness. Mr. Ikeda expressed his deepest respect for those who are working earnestly toward this endeavor and encouraged them to become people of patience, wisdom and compassion.

At the meeting, Toshiyuki Nagashima, a junior high school teacher in Chiba, shared his experience of working together with students who were experiencing difficulties at school and how his belief in their potential enabled him to truly encourage and help them.

Kenichi Tsubouchi, an elementary school teacher in Tokyo, also shared how he was able to build more class unity through teaching students about the value of respecting one another's differences.
