SGI-Bolivia Hosts Education Seminars

On August 27, 2009, SGI-Bolivia conducted a youth education seminar at the Guadalupe Secondary School in the municipality of Concepción, Bolivia. Approximately 350 students attended.

After reading Daisaku Ikeda's book Conversations with Youth and learning about SGI's contributions to peace, culture and education, Guadalupe Secondary School principal Sister Elvy Cortez Castro requested SGI-Bolivia to hold a seminar using Mr. Ikeda's book as study material. Sister Cortez expressed her appreciation for Mr. Ikeda's thoughts on education and his guidance to adolescents. She also stated her hope to continue working together with the SGI in fostering youth for the future.

In the seminar held during classes at the school, SGI-Bolivia members discussed topics ranging from love, friendship and study to filial piety, based on ideas presented in Conversations with Youth.

On July 31, a seminar introducing first Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi's educational philosophy took place at the Juan Misael Saracho Teacher Training College in Tarija, Bolivia. Some 200 faculty members and students from the school attended.

The event introduced Mr. Makiguchi's life story, his priority on children's happiness and his theory of value creation, focusing on beauty, gain and good. College President Alberto Pereira expressed his wish to share with even more students Mr. Makiguchi's philosophy of Soka (value-creating) education.
