Taiwan Soka Association Hosts Lecture on Value-creating Pedagogy
On June 6, 2009, Taiwan Soka Association (TSA) held a public lecture, "The Source and Development of the Pedagogy of Value Creation," and invited renowned Taiwanese psychologist and educator Professor Liu Kun-huei as the keynote speaker. Members of TSA's academics and educators groups as well as Ming Chuan University Professor Lan San-yinn, National Yang-Ming University Professor Huang Su-fei and National Taiwan Normal University Professor Tseng Fen-lan attended the lecture held at the Zhi Shan Culture Center in Taipei.
Professor Liu translated Soka kyoikugaku taikei (The System of Value-creating Pedagogy), first Soka Gakkai president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi's magnum opus, from its Japanese original into traditional Chinese (publisher: Cheng Yin Culture Enterprise Co., Ltd.). Professor Liu stated that Mr. Makiguchi's pedagogy was the culmination of his many years of experience in the teaching profession. Its stress on pragmatism and proof sets it apart from old schools of thought in education that emphasize theory over actual application. Professor Liu called Mr. Makiguchi's philosophy innovative and unique and said that as a philosophy based on the ideals of humanism it suits the needs of humanity in the 21st century.
Professor Lan San-yinn commented that the lecture deepened his understanding of the contributions of SGI, which embraces Mr. Makiguchi's philosophy. He also stated that the value that SGI places on pragmatism will have a deep impact on the educational world.
