Soka Gakkai Opens Educational Counseling Center in Fukushima Prefecture
This year commemorates the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the first Soka Gakkai Educational Counseling Center (SGECC) in 1968. On June 7, 2008, the Soka Gakkai Education Department opened its 34th SGECC at the Soka Gakkai Koriyama Chuo Culture Center in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture. Soka Gakkai educators in Fukushima gathered for the official opening, held in conjunction with their general meeting.
Fukushima SGECC Director Roku Saito expressed his hope that the center will provide safe and secure counseling to everyone. Soka Gakkai Education Department Chief Hajime Miyamoto called on those attending to challenge their own personal development to further spread hope and happiness in society.
At each SGECC, experienced teachers who have also received training in psychological and educational counseling provide services to students and their families seeking advice on educational, developmental and psychological concerns, including bullying and abuse students face at school and at home.
