Soka Gakkai Sponsors Public Awareness Lectures in Japan
On April 19, 2008, Soka Gakkai Women's Peace Committee in Osaka sponsored a Culture of Peace Forum at the Soka Gakkai Keihan Culture Center in Osaka. Four representatives spoke at the event, which was open to the public. Ruriko Iwade spoke about how her profession as a visiting nurse relates to peace building. Mitsuko Kitai shared her wartime experiences and called on the audience to do their best to avert war and work for peace. Mieko Takahashi related how she triumphed by challenging her own life so she could encourage her child who refused to attend school.
Kashiko Araki, a photographer who specializes in capturing images of the elderly, also spoke about her profession. Eiko Tanimoto, Kansai Gaidai University board of trustee's vice chairperson, a guest at the event, commented that she was encouraged hearing experiences which demonstrated how individuals gained strength to advance their lives and overcome difficulties.
In Miyazaki Prefecture, the Soka Gakkai organized a public forum titled Food Safety and Agriculture on April 20, at the Shintomicho Culture Center. Shunichi Takiguchi from the Miyazaki City Public Health Center spoke. On the same day, Soka Gakkai Kansai Doctors and Nurses Divisions held a seminar entitled Toward a Century of Life at the Miyakojima Culture Center in Osaka.
