Himeji Dokkyo University Law Department Dean Speaks at Soka Gakkai Education Department Commemorative Lecture
On June 5 in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Soka Gakkai Education Department hosted a lecture commemorating June 6, the 134th birth anniversary of educator and first Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944). Professor Masaji Ie, Law Department dean at Himeji Dokkyo University, Hyogo Prefecture, spoke on "The Light of Soka Education--Toward a Century of Hope." Professor Ie, a council member of the Japanese Society of International Law, stated that education is the key to transforming the 20th century, dominated by forces supporting war and violence, into a century of peace and humanism. Introducing words by German legal scholar Rudolf Von Jhering (1818-1892), who said the goal of law is peace and the means to this end is struggle, Professor Ie emphasized three points for humanity to achieve lasting peace and happiness: overflowing love for humanity; struggling to achieve absolute pacifism; and creating a human solidarity through dialogue.
