Singapore Soka Association Performs at Chinese New Year Parade

Chingay Parade

On February 3-4, more than 1,000 Singapore Soka Association (SSA) youth members performed at the 2012 Chinese New Year Chingay Parade, one of the biggest parades in Asia, in which various cultural organizations from around the world are invited to perform. The parade is sponsored by the People’s Association and was held at Singapore's Marina Bay. The president of Singapore, Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, and Singapore's prime minister, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, attended the event.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chingay Parade. SSA performed in both the opening ceremony and in the finale. Included in their performance was a reading of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s poem titled “Paths of Verdure in the Lion City—To My Dear Friends in Singapore," which was sent to SSA members on the occasion of Mr. Ikeda's first visit to Singapore in 1988.
