"Beyond the Horizon," an exhibition of photographs taken by "Hato-kai," a group of SGI men involved in maritime occupations, was shown at the Shanghai Maritime University Library from October 20-22. Some 1,500 viewed the exhibition, which was organized by Hato-kai and co-hosted by Shanghai Maritime University.

The exhibition, renamed "Sino-Japan Photo Exhibition on Seafarers' Life," consists of 80 photos taken during members' seafaring journeys and time at ports of call. The show also contains 15 photographs taken by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and 60 photographs taken by students of Shanghai Maritime University.

Guests at the exhibition opening included Shanghai Maritime University President Yu Shicheng, Shanghai Navigation Society Secretary General Sang Shiliang, International Maritime Lectures Association Honorary Chairman Malek Pourzanjani and International Ocean Institute President Awni Behnam.

After touring the exhibit, President Yu Shicheng stated his belief that the Hato-kai exhibition has played a significant role in China-Japan cultural exchange.

In addition to being shown annually in China, the "Beyond the Horizon" series, which first debuted in 1994, has been exhibited in 11 countries to date.

In 2008, the exhibition was also shown at the International Maritime Organization headquarters in London, UK, and attended by ambassadors from various countries.
