Soka Gakkai Malaysia Holds Art Exhibitions
From December 13-27, 2009, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) held the "Guangzhou Art Sensation: An Exhibition by Renowned Guanghzou Artists" at the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The exhibition celebrated the 35th anniversary of Sino-Malaysia diplomatic relations. It was jointly organized by SGM, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia, the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, Guangzhou Federation of Literacy and Art Circles and the Guangzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
Dr. Hou Kok Chung, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, presided over the opening ceremony held on December 13. Approximately, 800 attended. In conjunction with the showing, a Chinese ink painting workshop was organized.
From December 27 to January 3, 2010, "The Differing Faces of South East Asia" exhibition was shown at Wisma Kebudayaan. The collection featured the work of Mr. Chia Hoy Sai, and his oil and pencil portraits of various tribal peoples such as the Karen, Akka, Batak and Mong. A total of 670 attended.
Mr. Chia Hoy Sai spent many years travelling throughout South East Asia and living among various tribal peoples, such as the Sarawak. His work conveys his hope for a multi-cultural society that embraces all ethnicities. A talk chaired by Mr. Chia was held in conjunction with the exhibition opening.
