SGI-Philippines Hosts Youth Culture Festival in Mindanao

On November 23, 2008, SGI-Philippines put on the "Mindanao Youth Culture Festival" at the Capitol University on Mindanao Island, the Philippines. Capitol University President Casimiro B. Juarez Jr. and his wife, Dr. Fe Rosales Juarez, attended the festival together with some 3,000 SGI-Philippines members. SGI President Daisaku Ikeda sent a congratulatory message expressing his hope that those gathered become indispensable in their communities. The festival began with the Philippines' national anthem sung by the Capitol University Choir. A SGI-Philippines Mindanao Chapter youth leader spoke about his resolve for 2009, designated the "Year of Youth and Victory." The festival also included the SGI-Philippines’ Mindanao Musical Band performing Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” and dynamic gymnastic and dance performances.
