Soka Gakkai Thailand Participates in Birth Anniversary Celebration for Princess Mother of Thailand
On October 21, 2008, a national event to commemorate the 108th anniversary of the birth of the Princess Mother of Thailand Srinagarindra, the mother of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, took place in Bangkok, Thailand. The Princess Mother Memorial Park hosted the event with support from the Thai Ministry of Culture and Bangkok City.
As one of the event's supporting organizations, Soka Gakkai Thailand's (SGT) band performed the national anthem at an early morning opening event. Guests attending included Thai Privy Council President and former Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda, Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayothin and the King’s Deputy Principal Private Secretary Thanphuying Putrie Viravaidya. The SGT band led a parade from Klongsarn District Office to Princess Mother Memorial Park, followed by some 250 SGT youth who wore traditional costumes of the Lanna Kingdom of north Thailand, where the Princess Mother spent her last years. At the park, traditional Thai dancers and the Bangkok Orchestra performed. A Princess Mother Memorial Park administrator expressed appreciation for SGT's contribution to the success of the event.
