Min-On Cosponsors Annual Foreign Students Music Festival in Kyoto and Osaka

On November 18, 2007, the 19th Kyoto Foreign Students Music Festival was held at Kyoto Kaikan Hall in Kyoto City. Clad in beautiful national costumes some 133 foreign students from 20 countries studying in Kyoto performed dances and music of their respective cultures. This annual festival for foreign students, cosponsored by the Min-On Concert Association (Min-On), the Kyoto City Music and Arts Promotion Foundation and Kyoto Shimbun, aims to promote intercultural understanding and help create a worldwide network of friendship and peace.

Min-On also cosponsored a similar event in Osaka with the Osaka Foundation of International Exchange, International House Osaka and the Sayama City Promotional Events Agency. The 17th Osaka Foreign Students Music Festival was held on December 16 at the Sayaka Hall in Sayama City. Over 100 students from 21 countries performed native folk songs and dances.

Participating students at both festivals remarked that they were glad for the opportunity to meet people from diverse cultural backgrounds and that the festival represented the world society in miniature.
