Soka Gakkai Malaysia Cosponsors Exhibition of Works by Guangxi Artists
From May 13-17, 2007, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) sponsored "The Malaysia-Guangxi Cultural Vessel--The Lijiang Painting Style Fine Arts Exhibition 2007" at the Wisma Kebudayaan SGM Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The exhibition, part of SGM's longstanding collaboration with cultural organizations and agencies to promote the arts and culture of Malaysia and foster Cultural Activitiess with other countries, featured paintings and artworks from the Guangxi region of China. Organized in cooperation with the Art and Literature Union of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Guangxi Artists Association and the Lijang Painting Style Promotion Association of China, the exhibition was traveling outside China for the first time.
Y.B. Dato' Wong Kam Hoong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, officiated at the opening ceremony on May 13. The exhibition showcased more than 120 artworks by Guangxi artists portraying the natural scenic beauty, unique multicultural society and local customs in Guangxi through vivid and colorful imagery using media such as Chinese ink, oil, watercolor and print art. In conjunction with the exhibition, renowned artists from Guangxi and Malaysia hosted a panel discussion on contemporary Guangxi and Malaysian art. The show aimed to enhance friendship and Cultural Activitiess between the peoples of Guangxi and Malaysia.
At the same venue, SGM hosted an exhibition of works by Malaysian, Philippine and Indonesian artists from May 20-30, and aerial photography by Romanian photographer Stefan Petrescu from May 21-27.
