On April 6, President Chen Haosu of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and his party were warmly welcomed by Soka Gakkai Vice General Director Hiromasa Ikeda and staff at the Seikyo Press building in Shinanomachi, Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. Expressing appreciation for SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's longstanding efforts to advance friendship between Japan and China, President Chen said he was convinced that Soka Gakkai members' contributions to bilateral relations will contribute to Sino-Japan friendship for generations into the future. It was also announced that cherry trees would be planted and dedicated to President Chen and his wife at Makiguchi Garden in Hachioji, Tokyo, at President Ikeda's suggestion, representing their mutual hopes for strengthening understanding and friendship between China and Japan. Mr. Chen received the Seikyo Culture Award and his wife Qin Zhao, the Soka Women's College Glory Award, for their contributions to Sino-Japan friendship.
