On July 19, Icelandic Minister of Education, Science and Culture Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir visited the Min-On Culture Center in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, and received a warm welcome from Min-On Concert Association (Min-On) President Hiroyasu Kobayashi. Beginning in November 2005, Min-On will sponsor an Icelandic music tour in Japan. Iceland, the world's northernmost island nation, lying just below the Arctic Circle, is the 92nd country with which Min-On has conducted Cultural Activitiess. "Borealis Ensemble," an original music group organized for the Min-On tour, will present medieval Icelandic music. Mrs. Gunnarsdottir expressed her appreciation to Min-On founder Daisaku Ikeda for his ideals and efforts to unite the world through Cultural Activitiess. She also hoped the Icelandic music group's first Min-On tour would be successful in contributing to friendship between Iceland and Japan.
