On May 5, an event celebrating the Royal Coronation Day of his Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was held in Bangkok, Thailand. SGI-Thailand dancers and chorus members participated in the festivities, sponsored by the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Bangkok City and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). The event heralded next year's 60th Coronation Day. The Thai people have long respected and loved King Bhumibol for his dedication to advancing culture, art and learning. Some 10,000 gathered to celebrate the King's coronation anniversary with various sports, games and cultural performances. SGI-Thailand, which had just sponsored a large-scale peace cultural festival in March, supported the festivities with a youth modern dance team and a large chorus, at the request of the Thai government. Tourism and Sports Minister Sonthaya Khunpluen was on hand, together with many local residents, to enjoy the commemorative events.
