Korean Musical Gambler Launches Japan Tour
Commemorating the 40th anniversary of normalization of Korean-Japan relations in 2005, the Min-On Concert Association invited the Seensee Musical Company, South Korea's largest musical production company, to bring its hit musical Gambler--The Golden Key to Japan for a two month engagement. During May and June, the company will perform in eight cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa.
Written and composed by Eric Woolfson of the United Kingdom, Gambler has been viewed by 55,000 in Korea. Directed by Lim Youngwoong, the superbly cast, first Japan production in 2002 played to an enthusiastic audience for its moving portrayal of themes of love and sadness, set amid crosscurrents of greed and betrayal. In the upcoming production, actor Huh Junho, well-known in Japan, will play the boss of the Golden Key casino. The youthful gambler role will be played by Lee Gunmyung, winner of the 2001 Korean Musical Award. Talented singer and actress Jeon Sona will play the showgirl, the gambler's love interest.
