In May and June, SGI members in Taiwan, Spain and Singapore took Buddhist study exams as a way of deepening their understanding of Nichiren Buddhism. SGI-Argentina members also held Buddhist study seminars on the concept of karma.
In Taiwan, on May 19, more than 5,600 Taiwan Soka Association (TSA) members, including many youth, took an intermediate-level study exam at 43 venues throughout the country. One of the examinees commented that she had come to better understanding of the concept of the oneness of self and environment and of Buddhist study as the cornerstone on which one's inner transformation is based.
On May 26, SGI-Spain held elementary-level study exams at 12 locations including Rivas-Vaciamadrid and the Canary Islands. Some 300 people took the exam which focused on the life of Nichiren and a passage from a letter he addressed to his disciple, known as the lay priest Soya.
Study exams were also held by Singapore Soka Association (SSA) at the Tampines Soka Centre and other venues on June 9. Some 500 people sat an entrance-level study exam, answering questions on passages from Nichiren's writings "The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life" and "The Hero of the World." The exam could be taken in either Chinese or English.
On June 1, some 600 SGI-Argentina youth members in Buenos Aires and two other cities hosted seminars on the concept of karma. One participant stated that it was inspiring to learn that Nichiren Buddhism teaches that karma is something that can be created and transformed in the present by drawing on the wellspring of unlimited inner potential or Buddhahood that all human beings possess.
