Updates and reports from around the world
From England to Bolivia, Taiwan to Burkina Faso, SGI members throughout the world celebrated the New Year with prayer meetings in their local areas on January 1 and 2.
On January 1, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and Mrs. Ikeda visited the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Tokyo and prayed for the health, safety and happiness of all members worldwide.
In his New Year's message, Mr. Ikeda highlighted the core objective of practitioners of Nichiren Buddhism and the means for actively applying Buddhism to daily life:
The Mystic Law, the ultimate law of the universe, gives us the power to make our lives shine their brightest and also to bring forth the most wonderful potential of the lands in which we dwell . . .
Action is the essence of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. As its practitioners, we turn our problems and suffering into a source of compassion and wisdom with which to encourage others. We change karma into mission. We pursue the path of human revolution--the most difficult and fundamental challenge of inner transformation--and seek to inspire others to do the same.
Echoing the sentiments in his message, SGI members at the various New Year's meetings shared determinations for the year and resolved to continue challenging their individual human revolution and spread hope and happiness in society.
