Soka Gakkai Women's Peace Committee Creates DVD of Women's War Testimonies
Commemorating the Women's Division's 55th anniversary, the Soka Gakkai Women's Peace Committee created a DVD entitled "For the Sake of Peace: Women's War Testimonies" (tentative translation). Last summer, which marked the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, Soka Gakkai women members across Japan interviewed some 180 women directly affected by World War II, to document for posterity the reality of war and to counteract propaganda that sanitizes or glorifies armed conflicts. The DVD resulting from that effort includes war testimonies and cries for peace from 31 women across Japan, grouped in themes, such as "The Atomic Bomb and Hiroshima, "The Atomic Bomb and Nagasaki," "The Okinawa War," and "The Women and Children of War." The women's division members plan to show the DVD at peace forums and various gatherings of women and young people. They will also present it to local educational organizations as a peace education tool. The DVD is not for sale.
