SGI-Macau Contributes Monetary Aid for Snow Disaster Victims in China
In January 2008, heavy snowstorms caused serious damage to about 20 provinces and cities in southern and central China, among the worst in 50 years. Blackouts and water shortages lasted for weeks and cold-related illnesses were rampant. More than a hundred million people were affected.

SGI-Macau donated MOP230,000 (approximately US$29,170) to aid the disaster victims. On February 6, SGI-Macau General Director Lei Loi Tak presented a check to Mr. Li Zhengqiao, vice director of the Cultural and Educational Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region. Mr. Lei said that the SGI-Macau members maintain their hope that those affected by the snowstorms would be able to rebuild their homes and overcome their hardships as soon as possible.
