SGI-Korea Fife-and-Drum Corps Participates in International Festivals
On August 16 and 17, 2007, the Victoria Marching Band, part of the SGI-Korea Arirang Fife-and-Drum Corps, performed at the renowned Jeju International Wind Music Festival on Jeju (Cheju) Island in South Korea. The 12th annual festival showcased 47 bands and orchestras from 12 countries, with 2,600 participants. The festival is one of the island's main events and attracts music groups and their families and fans from throughout the world. The Victoria Marching Band presented Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance," "Youth, Scale the Mountain of the 21st Century" and Jeju folk songs.

From July 28-31, the 60-member SGI-Korea Arirang Fife-and-Drum Corps put on a dynamic performance at the 6th Gangneung Youth Performing Arts Festival on Kyungpodac Beach, Gangneung City, in Kangwon Province. The youth arts festival is an annual event whose aim is to foster intercultural friendship and mutual understanding among young musicians from throughout the world. This year some 400 artists representing 16 organizations from seven countries including Japan, Germany and Korea took part in the festival.
