Seikyo Press Hosts Shinanomachi Neighborhood Association's Bon-odori Dance Festival
Local residents enjoy an evening of dancing and socializing at summer bon-odori
On August 4 and 5, the 22nd "Shinanomachi Furusato Bon-odori" summer dance festival was held in the courtyard of the Seikyo Press building in Shinanomachi, Tokyo. Several thousand residents, young and old, gathered during the two-day festival to folk dance in their yukata (summer kimonos), partake of delicious summer fare including barbecued corn on the cob and yakitori, and vie for small prizes at outdoor game stalls. On August 4, the professional dance troupe Kikuno-kai, together with local residents, danced to dynamic rhythms of the Maiko-kai drummers. Shinanomachi Shopping District Redevelopment Association President Shigefumi Suzuki, Shinanomachi Neighborhood Association President Katsuya Sato and Shinjuku Deputy Mayor Hidehito Nagaki each spoke. On August 5, overseas guests attended the festivities and enjoyed an evening of traditional Japanese culture.
