Soka Gakkai Malaysia Participates in 48th National Day Celebration
Graceful dancers celebrate Malaysia National Day in Selangor State
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) participated in Malaysia's 48th National Day (August 31) celebrations in 11 states, including Kuala Lumpur. SGM has supported independence day festivities since 1985, when the Malaysian government first approached SGM with a request for support. On August 31, 100 SGM Student Division members put on a dynamic show at the main event in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia's King HRH Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, cabinet members and many other government officials attended. National TV news stations reported on and showed video footage of the show. In Pahang, Melaka, Terengganu and Penang states, SGM members participated in parades for peace. In Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, SGM members participated in festivals and put on gymnastic feats and other performances.

SGM members also participated in the annual Colors of Malaysia festival and the Asia Women's Peace Forum.
