SGI-UK Holds Commemorative Event in London
On May 7, some 5,500 SGI-UK members gathered for a commemorative meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in London, one of the world's leading entertaining venues, with over 130 years of history. The event commemorated the 75th anniversary of Soka Gakkai, the 30th anniversary of SGI as well as the 30th anniversary of SGI-UK's official establishment. Many guests attended, including UNICEF UK Vice Chair Brigid Crofton; Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe of the University of Wales; and three local mayors. SGI-UK members presented a gala of songs, dances and music. Soka Gakkai's first three presidents' humanistic ideals and peace activism, along with SGI-UK's history and development, were introduced through a multi-media presentation. SGI-UK General Director Robert Samuels called on everyone to start afresh to further challenge his or her own human revolution and to contribute to society, toward the next milestone in 2010.
